Urdu: official language

Published September 17, 2015

THE Supreme Court ruling to adopt and implement Urdu as the official language has left the elite class of the country feeling uneducated.

English being the lingua franca of the land has the undivided attention of students and educators. The sudden change in status has taken everyone by surprise, and no one seems ready for the abrupt change.

Recommendations from some quarters to introduce Urdu as the official language for competitive examinations have added to the worry of prospective candidates. Furthermore, adding to the chaos is the government, which has not given a time frame or plan as to how this change is to be implemented. I request the government to address this issue and end the confusion.
