RAWALPINDI: Three people were killed while a woman was seriously injured in separate incidents on Tuesday.

A couple from Kohistan, was found attacked with an axe — which is believed to have been the weapon — lying close to them, when police entered their rented room in Gulraiz Colony Tuesday morning.

Abdul Hameed and his wife Fehmeeda were shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) where Abdul Hameed succumbed to his injuries.

Fehmeeda, who is eight months pregnant, is critically injured.

A police investigation revealed that the young couple had eloped a year ago because their parents were against their marriage. The couple settled in the city after leaving their hometown.

The incident came to light after passers-by heard a woman screaming inside the house and informed police officials.

“After police entered the room, they found the couple in a pool of blood, but the woman was breathing,” the investigating officer told Dawn.

The official confirmed that the woman was pregnant, and sustained critical head injuries. She was shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, where she was operated on.

“She has been unconscious since the attack,” the official said, adding that a relative of the deceased was contacted following the attack.

Police said that although the victim’s brother was coming to Rawalpindi to collect the body, he refused to lodge a complaint and claimed he had no enmity with anybody.

Police speculated that the woman’s relatives could be involved in the murder, as she married against her parents’ wishes.

In another incident, a young man was gunned down, allegedly by his rivals, while he was waiting for a bus at the Soan bus bay.

Police said that Safeer Ahmed and his wife were waiting for a passenger bus heading to Kotli Sattian after attending a case hearing at the district courts when he was shot.

Ahmed was allegedly involved in the murder of Yasir Iqbal, whose relatives may have been involved in Ahmed’s death. However, there had been a patch-up between the two parties.

Police said a murder case had been registered against the attacker, and investigation has been started.

Meanwhile, Nusrat Hussain, 38, was on his way to pick up his daughter from school when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle near the Morgah joint police picket. According to a relative, Hussain was badly injured and was moved to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
