PESHAWAR,  Oct 17: An anti-terrorism court on Thursday awarded death penalty to six people involved in a dacoity in Nowshera.

The court presided over by Akhter Zareef Khan observed that the prosecution had proved its case against the six accused.

The names of those who have been sentenced to death are Mir Zaman, Ahsanullah, Jan Muhammad, Nadeem, Jamshed and Sameen.

The dacoity took place on Sept 21, 2000 on the Kheshki Road, Nowshera when guards of the Brinks security agency were trying to shift some cash from a bank to another location. The accused killed Tanoosh Khan and Zulfiqar, driver and guard of the security agency and injured Samar Gul.

The accused were earlier convicted by the ATC on June 24, 2002, but their sentences were set aside by the Peshawar High Court early this year and the case was remanded back for a retrial to the ATC.

The High Court observed that the trial court had not framed charges against the appellants under section 6 of the Anti Terrorism Act, 1997, which was a mandatory provision. The court observed that charges were framed under section 17(3) of the Offence Against Property (Enforcement of Hudood) Ordinance, 1979.
