GUJRANWALA: Two motorcyclists on Monday shot dead a transport owner and injured two others over recovery of bus stand fee at Lohianwala bypass intersection.

Reports said Hamid Nasir alias Hamadi Butt along with his men Muhammad Arif and Muhammad Aslam was on his way by a four wheeler. Near bypass, two persons riding a motorcycle came, stopped the car and opened fire, killing Hamid on the spot and injuring two others. The injured were shifted to Mayo Hospital from DHQ Hospital due to their critical condition.

It was stated that Hamid was involved in extorting money in the form bus stand fee from other transport owners. He had a dispute with one Modi Butt of Budha Goraya for the last seven years.

Aroop police removed his body for autopsy and registered a case against unidentified suspects.

Civil Lines SP Nadeem Khokher constituted a team comprising four station house officers and led by a DSP to arrest the suspects.

GCCI POLLS: The Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry annual election for 2015-16 for seven seats of corporate and eight seats of associate classes will be held on Sept 15 and 16, respectively.

Election commission members Rana Shehzad Hafiz and Abdul Qadir Phulerwan said 12 people had filed their nomination papers for corporate and 13 for associate class.

It merits mentioning that the aspirants belong to the ruling group and no body has raised any objection to their candidature and they may be elected unopposed.

HUMAN TRAFFICKERS: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed on Monday to have arrested six human traffickers and seized several passports and documents from their possession.

FIA Deputy Director Khalid Anis said Ghulam Rasool, Javed Iqbal and Munawer were arrested from Sialkot while Hanif, Nasir and Arshed Mehmood were nabbed from Gujrat.

He said the suspects were involved in dozen cases of human smuggling for the last two years.

REMAND EXTENDED: Anti-terrorism court No.1 judge Imtiaz Ahmad extended on Monday physical remand of two main suspects Naveed and Abdu Baker involved in murder case of PML-N MPA Rana Shamshad Ahmad Khan, his son Rana Shahbaz and friend Shakir Ali and ordered to produce them in court on Sept 5.
