KARACHI: A new police station was inaugurated on Monday in the Clifton division of police to curb crime at Seaview and Dau Darya.

Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal inaugurated the Sahil police station, which has been established temporarily on the premises of the Darakhshan police station.

The minister told the media that 50 officials with three police vans and four motorbikes had been given at the disposal of the Sahil police station. In reply to a question, he said that investigation into the recent targeted killing of policemen was under way as ‘some progress’ had been made.

The police were also investigating the armed attack on MQM lawmaker Rashid Godil last month but so far no suspect had been arrested.

Mr Siyal said that after the killing of the two traffic policemen on Sunday in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, the authorities were contemplating providing arms and bullet-proof jackets to the traffic police as well.

He also said a committee comprising senior police officers was being established to probe corruption charges against officers above inspector rank.

Sindh police chief Ghulam Hyder Jamali told the media that ‘thousands’ of CCTV cameras were being installed with the help of the US government in Karachi.
