HYDERABAD, Oct 15: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company has completed work on the electrification of 32 villages in the Sindh province under the Tameer-i-Pakistan Programme during September 2003.

Guftar Anjum, Hesco project director, Construction, in a statement issued here on Wednesday said that the electrification work of four villages in Hyderabad, two in Badin, one in Thatta, two in Dadu, 14 in Khairpur and nine in Ghotki had been completed at a total cost of Rs16,635,346.

He said these schemes had been commissioned according to the list provided by the members of the National Assembly.

The MNAs included Syed Ameer Ali Shah Jamote (NA-221), Mrs Shamshad Bachani (NA-223), Syed Naveed Qamar (NA-222), Dr Mrs Fahmeeda Mirza (NA- 225), Mohammad Ali Malkani (NA-238), Liaquat Ali Jatoi (NA-233), Abdul Ghani Talpur (NA-231), Manzoor Hussain Wassan (NA-215), Pir Syed Fazal Ali Shah Jilani (NA-217), Syed Javed Ali Shah Jilani (NA-216), and Khalid Ahmed Khan Lund (Minister for Wapda).

FUMIGATION: Under the direct orders of the Sindh governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad, the DEO, Health, Dr Ashraf Bhurgari, on Wednesday launched fumigation in the three Talukas of Hyderabad.

During the first phase, ponds and nullahs will be fumigated, while fumigation throughout the three Talukas will commence from Oct 17.

Dr Bhurgari has appealed to the general public to cooperate with the health teams.

SPLA: The president, Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association, Sanghar, Mir Hassan Sirewal, and the president, Sanghar Degree College unit, M. A. Sanjrani, have expressed concern over the interference of some political elements into the affairs of the girls college of Tando Adam and issuing threats to the college staff.

In a joint statement faxed to Dawn here on Wednesday, they said the interference was affecting academic activities and the staff was feeling unsafe.

They demanded that entry of outsiders in the college premises should be stopped and the college principal be transferred without any further delay.

EXAMS: The controller of examinations, University of Sindh has announced that last date for submission of examination forms of MSc (previous and final) Rural Development external programme for annual examination 2003 have been extended upto Oct 18 with late fee of Rs500.

VC: The vice-chancellor University of Sindh Mazharul Haq Siddiqui has urged the students to attend their classes regularly to fulfil the objectives of higher education.

He was speaking to them during his visit to various departments to examine the educational activities on Wednesday.

The vice-chancellor visited the department of English, Political Science, Sociology, Public Management Sciences, Philosophy, Psychology, Social Work, Mass Communication and others.

He attended lectures in the department of English and Mass Communication and appreciated full attendance of students in their classes.

The dean faculty of social sciences, Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh, and dean faculty of arts, Dr Kazi Khadim Hussain, were also present on the occasion.
