HYDERABAD: Primary schoolteachers took out a rally outside the press club on Friday, demanding removal of secretary of education Fazlullah Pechuho while the secretary advised the protesters to resolve issues through talks instead of agitation.

The All Sindh Primary Teachers Association president Liaquat Deedar and other office-bearers who led the protest demanded removal of the secretary and said the teachers who had passed National Testing Service test conducted by the Sindh University were to be promoted to BS-16 in 2010 but it had not been done yet although the finance department had issued a notification in this regard.

They opposed deduction in conveyance allowance during summer vacation and complained the secretary had issued relieving orders of thousands of teachers, requiring them to report to Karachi office. As a result, they said, hundreds of schools had closed down.

They demanded they should be restored to their jobs in their schools and salaries of the teachers who had passed the test should be released.

Pechuho holds out olive branch

LARKANA: Secretary of Education Fazlullah Pechuho has held out an olive branch to the agitating teachers and said they should resolve issues through talks. The secretary said at a press conference at the press club that teachers’ issues would be solved on priority basis provided they performed their duty honestly.

He said the jobs of teachers who were recruited on the basis of NTS test in 2010 would be confirmed and salaries would be released to them as soon as the process of verification was complete.
