GUJRANWALA, Oct 14: Two sisters were killed when the roof of their house collapsed at Gakameter village in Wazirabad, on Tuesday.

Reports said Rizwana, 14, and Farzana, 10, were asleep in their room along with other members of the family when their house’s roof caved in. The two sisters were grievously injured and were taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital where they died.

It is learnt that the deceased’s aunt, Ishrat Bibi, was killed in a roof collapse at the same house 20 years ago.

COMPENSATORY AMOUNT: The DIG and other senior police officers on Tuesday visited deceased police constable Iftikhar Ahmad Bhinder’s house at Mari Bhinderan village, Naushera Virkan, and announced Rs500,000 and salary of the deceased for his widow till his service period.

Gujranwala Range police chief Altaf Qamar and District Police Officer Saud Aziz said the deceased had raised the morale of the police department by sacrificing his life in an encounter with dacoits.

They condoled with the bereaved family and assured them that the department would extend them maximum cooperation.

CHALLAN: Water and Sanitation Agency on Tuesday forwarded the challan of defaulters to the court of special judicial magistrate, who issued warrants of arrest.

A Wasa spokesman said the defaulters owed the agency Rs1.6 million and they were issued notices, but failed to clear their dues.

He said Wasa had been facing financial problems due to non-payment of water supply and other taxes. He said the water supply and sewerage taxes could be enhanced in two days, as the Punjab government has given an approval in this regard.
