RAWALPINDI: The local administration has canceled the Independence Day celebrations in the district schools due to security reasons.
Earlier, on the directive of the provincial government, all the schools were making arrangements for the Independence Day functions from August 8 and called all the staff teachers and students in this regard.
However, on Thursday, the district administration informed the district education department to announce holiday on Friday.
“I have been attending my school for the last one week and inviting the children for the rehearsals,” said a schoolteacher of government high school for girls near I.J. Principle Road.
Punjab Teachers Association, Rawalpindi District President Sagheer Alam has confirmed that the functions at educational institutions have been cancelled.
He said that the teachers were informed on Thursday that because of security threats the schools would remain closed on Friday. He said the school administrations had been asked to tighten the schools security for next two days.
When contacted, Commissioner Zahid Saeed denied the administration had issued any letter to the schools and said the main flag hoisting function would be held at his office.
