LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday admitted for regular hearing a petition of Jamatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed seeking a ban on exhibition of an upcoming Indian movie Phantom in Pakistan.

Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan also sought replies from the federal and Punjab governments on the matter by Aug 13.

In a brief hearing of the petition, advocate A.K. Dogar, the petitioner’s counsel, told the court the upcoming film contained venom against Pakistan and JuD. He said the movie apparently was about the 2008 Mumbai attacks and global terrorism. However, a filthy propaganda had been done in the film against Pakistan under subject of the world terrorism, he added.

The producers wouldnt care. Pakistan contributes about .028% towards the revenue of an average Bollywood movie. There are bigger markets for Bollywood elsewhere. Ban the movie or run it, up to you.

@KadvaSach Problem is not the current revenues. We had limited or no cinemas but screens are being burnt at increasing speed now. I perceive that in couple of years time films would soon reach the bench mark of 1 billion revenue. So, play it long term

Such petitions in court is a waste of time. Our courts are already overburdened. Focus on issues related to common folk in the country. Let the people enjoy the movie...,

@KadvaSach - in fact banning the film in Pakistan will generate greater revenue, because South Asians abroad, especially Pakistanis, will ensure seeing this film ut of curiosity. Anyway, the producer and director of this movie are lucky lot that they got a free advertisement.

Because this will be banned in Pakistan, it would actually help do good business in India. So it would get more revenues overall than it would have got other wise.

The question is, is the government of Pakistan (not the state of Pakistan) is complicit in this Indian propaganda and allowing it to be projected inside Pakistan, when majority of Pakistanis can see it as anti-Pakistan.

I believe, Pakistan should seriously put a ban on releasing any Indian movie. A fully Hollywood copied pictures with no substance, other than posing fake cuteness. It's disgusting to watch them. Honestly speaking, we the whole family has stopped watching their movies since early 1990s the time when Sunny Deol drained his hatred against Pakistan.

Why Pakistan government allows indian movies in Pakistan? Answer is because Pakistan film industry are not capable to produce enough movies for their audiences. Their budget are limited technology is old. once pakistani film industry will start producing quality and quantity of content, Goverment will ban indian content. Why indian government does not allow Pakistani movies but artist. To protect its film industry simple.
