PARACHINAR/KAL­AYA: Militants set a primary school on fire and kidnapped 10 labourers in the Serka area of Kurram Agency while 13 militants said to be belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) surrendered in Orakzai Agency on Sunday.

A political administration official told journalists in Parachinar that the men who torched the school also kidnapped 10 labourers who were working in a project in the area and resided in the school building.

The official said that no gro­up had claimed responsibility for the kidnapping, adding that militants still have a presence in Kurram Agency’s central tehsil.

Separately, TTP’s important leader, Mohammad Amin, and his 12 followers surrendered to the security forces in Ferozkhel area of Orakzai Agency on Monday. They also surrendered vests used by suicide bombers and AK-47 rifles.

Meanwhile, a suspected militant was shot dead in an encounter with the security forces in Janikhel area of Frontier Region Bannu.
