LAHORE: A moderate card of seven races has been drawn up for the day/night Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

The feature event, the Conflict Plate Class VI to be gone over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres, has 11 runners and looks an open affair. It should provide an interesting and closely-contested encounter between five contenders, if they are not pretenders.

Night-racing has picked up the momentum with a new spirit infused among owners/trainers who have shown keen interest by submitting increased number of entries of runners, totalling 66 for the seven events for Sunday. The positive response by them beckons rosy prospects for the equine activity in spite of the scorching and muggy summer weather coupled with frequent power shutdowns.

In view of the harsh weather conditions, the Lahore Race Club (LRC) had reduced the distance of races. Six events will be contested over 900 metres and one over the 1,000 metres.

The first race will be held at 5.00pm.
