OKARA: A group of educators has protested interviews for 44 posts of teachers by a five-member panel of the District Education Department despite stay by the Lahore High Court till Aug 5.

Muhammad Safdar Allama and Haji Muhammad Rizwan told journalists at the press club that 44 teachers were “sacked” a few months ago though they were diligently performing their duty for the last many years. The teachers, they said, moved court against the departmental action and a Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmani and Justice Qazi Faez Isa granted stay on petitions filed by Muhammad Iqbal and others against the process of fresh interviews.

Many other teachers filed a writ petition in the LHC which issued stay order that read: “...the proceedings of recruitment, if already initiated, be stayed till the next date of hearing on Aug 5, 2015.”

The protesting academics said both orders of the apex court and LHC had been sent to the education authorities which ignored these and constituted a five-member committee headed by EDO Education Naheed Wasif to complete interviews. They said they would file contempt plea against the authorities.

SENTENCE: A tractor driver was sentenced to seven-day jail for violation of the Punjab Sound System Ordinance 2015.

Muhammad Nawaz, a resident of Thatta Jahedoo village, had blared loud music while driving his tractor. Ravi police SHO Muhammad Akbar during patrol duty arrested him and registered a case No 173/15 against him.

The police presented him in the court of special judicial magistrate Tariq Mehmood who handed down seven-day imprisonment and sent Nawaz to the Sahiwal Central Jail.
