MIRPURKHAS: A man was sentenced to death and two co-accused were acquitted by the Mirpurkhas antiterrorism court in a murder case on Friday.

According to the prosecution, Wazeer Ali shot dead his son-in-law, Gul Hassan, on the district and sessions court premises on July 16, 2014.

An FIR was registered at the Town police station soon after the incident.

ATC Judge Ghulam Mustafa A. Memon pronouncing his verdict handed down capital punishment to Wazeer Ali and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs100,000.

In case of default on the fine payment, the convict would have to undergo another three-year rigorous imprisonment, the order said.

On the count of possessing an illegal weapon, the judge sentenced him to a three-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs50,000.

Two co-accused, Ali Sher and Noor Jahan, were acquitted in the case as the court gave them the benefit of doubt.

According to the case history, Gul Hassan had wedded Wazeer Ali’s daughter but some serious differences cropped up between their families and she was brought back to her parents’ house.

Mr Hassan repeatedly tried to get her back but Ali strongly resisted all his attempts. Mr Hassan moved court after lodging an FIR against Ali at the Gharibabad police station.

Court ordered the police to produce the woman to record her statement but on the day of her production, Ali shot dead Mr Hassan on the court premises.
