SHIKARPUR: Local leaders of several political parties at a joint press conference on Friday strongly opposed postponement of the local bodies elections in the province for any reason or on any pretext.

Maqsood Mirani of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Maulana Abdul Fatah Mahar of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, Zahid Hussain Bhambhro of the Qaumi Awami Tehreek, Mohammed Eidan Jatoi of the Pakistan Peoples Party-Shaheed Bhutto and others told journalists at the local press club that the PPP-led provincial government was finding excuses for flouting the Supreme Court order regarding the LB elections in Sindh.

They said that the people of Sindh had been facing great hardship in getting the issues of their areas resolved in the absence of local bodies.

They said all political and other forces were fully prepared for the LB elections but the ruling party seemed not ready to hold the elections on time.

They warned of a vigorous protest drive if the government put off the elections on the pretext of the situation arising out of torrential rains and flooding across the province due to peak flow in the Indus.
