KARACHI: The top four players cruised into the boys under-18 semi-finals after registering victories over their respective opponents in the second Young Stars ranking table tennis tournament at the Sindh Sports Board complex on Wednesday.

Top seed Mehdi Raza inflicted 11-3, 11-7, 4-11, 11-6 defeat on M. Saqib while second seed Hamza Godl was home 11-2, 11-3, 11-8 against Haji Usman. Third seed Furqan Patel accounted for Arsalan Alvi 11-6, 11-6, 11-9 whereas fourth seed Mehdi Azhar got the better of Abdul Ghaffar 13-11, 11-9, 12-10.

Two seeded players – second seed M. Sohail and fourth seed M. Saqib – made their exit as the boys under-15 singles also reached the last four stage.

Top seed Furqan Patel and third seed Mehdi Raza were joined by two unseeded players, Suleman Sharif and Kaif Riaz, in the boys under-15 semis.

Meanwhile, top seed Hareem Anwar is on course for a double crown after she made it to the girls under-18 finals. She whipped Nirma Faiq straight 11-9, 11-5, 11-4 to set a date with second seed Haleema Ali who coasted to 11-8, 13-11, 11-8, 11-7 victory over Mehak Anwar in the other semi-final.

It is pertinent to mention that Hareem had already qualified for the girls under-15 finals the other day.
