Nawaz urges JUI-F, MQM to withdraw deseating motions against PTI

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif urged members of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to withdraw deseating motions against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers.

The premier met parliamentary heads of political parties on Wednesday and thanked the leadership for showing resolve and remaining steadfast for the supremacy of the Constitution and democracy.

The meeting deliberated over the motions moved by JUI-F and MQM to de-seat the PTI legislators.

Most of the parliamentary heads expressed their opinion in favour of withdrawal of motions against the PTI MNAs.

However, the leaders of JUI-F and MQM sought time for consultation with their respective party leadership and apprised the premier they will communicate the party policy about motions against PTI.

Nawaz said the nation has moved forward in its democratic journey and that the unity of the political leadership to safeguard national interest would be a significant factor in the evolution of political process.

The prime minister said that the political leadership of the country has a great responsibility to work for the collective good of the country while pursuing their respective party policies.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary heads congratulated the prime minister for showing political magnanimity after issuance of judicial commission’s report and termed the findings of the inquiry commission a success of the democratic process.

The prime minister advised JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman and representatives of MQM to review their stand on the motions tabled against PTI lawmakers, and requested them to withdraw these motions.

The prime minister further elaborated that the government is now fully focused on the development and prosperity of the country and is fully committed to resolve the problems of people.

“I am very hopeful that the national political leadership would leave behind the bitter experiences of our past and embark upon new beginning with the passion of strengthening democracy,” said Nawaz.

The premier also constituted a four member committee comprising Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Pervez Rashid, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and PM’s adviser Irfan Siddique, and directed it to convince the leadership of JUI -F and MQM to withdraw their motions against PTI lawmakers.

Earlier on April 22, members of the MQM and the JUI-F requested the NA Speaker consider motions moved by MQM MNA Muhammad Salman Khan Baloch and JUI-F MNA Naeema Kishwer.

The motions called for the seats of 28 PTI members ─ who were absent without leave of the NA for 40 consecutive days of sitting ─ to be declared vacant under Clause (2) of Article 64 of the Constitution.

It is important to mention here that the MQM and the JUI-F moved motions on April 22 under rule 44 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007 to de-seat PTI members of the NA but Ayaz Sadiq said that the consideration of motions regarding the de-seating of PTI MNAs will be taken up after seven days under 'Rules and Procedures’.

A sensible, mature decision. IK has done his very best to derail the system but hitting back will only lead to further destabilization. We need the political forces to consolidate their positions. Another Martial Law will lead us back to square one.

Keen observation predicts that PTI will not change its ways. Right now being the underdog, it is appearing to behave while attempting every nefarious means to save its face. Predominantly composed of turncoats who relied on incoherent verbal incontinence and inducted like-minded people in the nascent party, once in power, it can inadvertently cause more harm than good, unless of course it mends its ways….which is only possible after major changes are made within the party or else it will only come about when the sun will rise from the west and perhaps then it will be too late!

However critical one could be, it is now irrevocable fact that NS is far mature in national politics. IK will need to show resolve and commitment to deliver to the people of KPK for next three years. Have given up hope in PTI if it remained the same. Bitter truth as PTI supporter, now shaken.

JUI-F and MQM are seasoned political parties by enjoying government with all forces, be its Khaki or dynasty based democracy. Both parties knew that growing popularity of PTI will effect their vote bank, other wise they damn care, everybody knows how democratic are these parties. On the other hand PML-N can't afford to put their vote in de-seat favor.

First PMLN instigates other to do this and then it wants to be the angel. The good cop bad cop thing can't fool most educated Pakistanis Mian sahab. PTI has no problem whether it stays in or out because it can serve the masses from both forums. The govt, though, doesn't want PTI to be deseated because then elections would be held on 28 seats which could stir full fledged elections. The govt wants PTI to stay in the Parliament but only as a friendly opposition thus the whole drama.

@Dr. Masood Can u narrate any incidence if PTI did anything against other political parties in KP where they are in power. They are doing fairly good there but there is not much coverage in the national media because PTI's relation with different TV Channels are not very friendly after the Dharna episode. May be few channels gave coverage of their new roads, tree plantations, hockey field in Mardan etc. etc. Most admirable achievements betterment in police department, punch card system of attendance of doctors and teachers.This will have a long term positive result. In my view, PTI should get away from this house gracefully instead being disgraced by the sitting parties and work hard for the next election.

Wrong decision, compromises has led Pakistan into very serious situations in the past. Why not get the bull by its horn and clean up the political scenario once and for all times. No lessons learnt from 1971 debacle, people must adopt stern attitude towards inept political leaders and should not compromise.

I think it will be good if both JUI & MQM table the motion in national assembly and also place their candidates up against PTI. Let the people of Pakistan decide the fate of political system in Pakistan whether we want change or happy with status quo. The new elections on those seats can be administered under reformed Electoral process and this can help in doing a dry run for the new system. Later on use the findings and performing needed changes, but the question is will the elements of status quo will accept this option.

@Nessar These are just allegations the way there were allegations about Ayoub Khan and followed Bhutto blindly and Pakistan lost its eastern wing (East Pakistan). When Ayoub Khan died, I visited his residence and I was surprised to see that he was enjoy his private life in a small single story consisting two/ three small rooms. Rest you can make your own confusion. Politicians always make false allegation against their opponent to make place in the politics because they know that people will not check the facts. I will say that people stop worshiping personalities and should not blieve everything they say. Neither IK is wali nor anybody else.

@syed wasim haider@hotmail.com You’ve made a valid point but it remains to be seen if such tactics were not undertaken only ‘cuz they were given an ‘uninterrupted free hand’ in KPK. With hindrances secondary to political interference, results & attitudes ‘might’ have been different. Can’t deny that PTI attempted to & was predominantly successful in establishing an ideal/desired governance in KPK (with obvious flaws beyond their control);space limitation barred me from touching this. Agree; they should concentrate on their good work in KPK. Opportunity of seeming graceful was lost when upon returning to assembly they labeled it ‘illegitimate’ in front of media (post-session). 'Grace’ can be earned by thanking the house for preventing the de-seating & by embracing constructive criticism & avoiding street & ‘oye’ politics. Need to unite for a prosperous Pakistan. Everybody has 'their' formula to achieve this common goal. We need to ‘agree to disagree’ & success & prosperity will await us!

Has has given nothing to this country and had always made false accusations and created chaos and anarchy everywhere. Claimed even to expel MQM from NA 246 and got itself expelled in a humiliating defeat. If PTI is de seated , it will loose all its seats in the by elections for sure. The Trojan horses are empty and Shuja Pasha is gone !

Prime Minister should also bring back all those MNAs that were sent home because they had dual nationality, were sentenced to jail, had fake degrees or any other reason. This is ridiculous that the Prime Minister of a country is asking other ministers to break the law. NS and speaker of NA should be charged with article 6 for treason against the law at highest level.

Its not for MQM or JUI to withdraw anything. According to the Constitution PTI stands disbarred from parliament and needs to re run for elections to be able to sit honorably in the assembly again. Otherwise they will always be interlopers, notwithstanding anybody's wishes.
