LAHORE, Oct 11: The Punjab government lifted on Saturday the ban on taking out processions, holding demonstrations and public meetings, imposed under Section 144.

The ban was imposed through the district governments on Wednesday to pre-empt violence and disturbance, especially on Friday, in the aftermath of the murder of Maulana Azam Tariq.

The decision to lift it was taken at a meeting which reviewed the overall law and order situation and found it satisfactory, fearing no chance of violence anywhere in the province.

The meeting was presided over by Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi who was earlier assured full cooperation by a delegation of Millat-i-Islamia Pakistan and participants in a meeting of the Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen.

It was attended among others by Chief Secretary Hafeez Akhtar Randhawa, home secretary, IGP and officials of other law enforcement agencies in the province.
