RAWALPINDI, Oct 10: A tripartite commission of Pakistani, US and Afghan authorities on Friday decided to further strengthen coordination in combating terrorist activities on the porous Pakistan-Afghanistan border, a joint statement said.

The statement said that the three parties discussed the effectiveness of the ongoing operations in the border region and the progress on efforts to enhance communication.

The commission received several briefings, including plans for the training and deployment of the Afghan border police security force.

The body also considered the establishment of a sub- committee to further coordinate counter-terrorism activities in the border areas, including military operations.

The commission stressed the need for completion of the direct communication line between director general, Military Operations, Pakistan and National Security Adviser, Afghanistan.

The commission directed the sub-committee established on July 29, 2003 to pay an early visit to the border area of Mohmand Agency and submit its report on Nov 15 in Kabul.
