FAISALABAD: The century old bungalow which has been residence and office of additional deputy commissioners of the past has been preserved and named as the Lyallpur bungalow.

The building was restored by the Lyallpur Heritage Foundation (LHF). District Coordination Officer Noorul Amen Mengal is the chairman of the LHF while the vice chairman of the foundation is Omer Nazar Shah. They along with industrialists inaugurated the house.

In 1909, the bungalow was constructed and had been abandoned for several years because of its rundown condition. After preservation, the DCO has also set up his camp office at the building.

Sharing his views with the participants in the event, Mr Shah said the LHF had been striving to preserve the historical places of Faisalabad that would be a gift for the visitors and coming generations.

He said such places would also become attraction for visitors from other cities and the residents of Faisalabad.

He announced a Rs50,000 prize each for Bazla Manzoor and Aqsa Yasin who designed the interior of the bungalow.

The DCO said a plaque inscribed with the history of the building and the names of his predecessors would also be displayed at the building to help visitors know about the history of the building.

He said the foundation had been formed to revive the heritage treasure of Faisalabad and several projects were underway.
