BAHAWALPUR: The delimitation authority of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday began hearing of objections to the provisional delimitations of the union councils and wards in districts, cities and villages in Bahawalpur division.

The hearing was initiated by retired district and sessions judge Chaudhry Abdul Hafeez at the office of regional election commissioner, Bahawalpur.

Earlier, the regional election commissioner received as many as 550 objections to the provisional delimitations by July 6, 2015 from three districts of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan.

According to officiating regional election commissioner Mian Shahid, 150 objections were received from Bahawalpur district, Bahawalnagar (90) and Rahim Yar Khan (310) by July 6 closing date.

He told Dawn that the delimitation authority would complete the hearing by July 20. Afterwards, lists of the final drafts of the delimitations would be made public, paving the way for the holding of local government election in September.

ACCIDENT: Two minor sisters were killed in a road accident near Tailwala, about 40-km from here, on Wednesday.

Muhammad Ismail along with his two daughters was on his way by a motorcycle when a pick-up hit the two-wheeler, killing the girls on the spot. Ismail was said to be critical at Bahawal Victoria Hospital.

Yazman police claim to have arrested the van driver.

RATION: Standing Committee on Broadcasting and Lok Virsa member MNA Begum Parveen Masood Bhatti on Wednesday distributed ration on behalf of the Baitul Maal among 300 deserving women.

The ration included rice, pulses, ghee, sugar and dates.
