KARACHI, Oct 8: Various parts of the city on Wednesday remained in the grip of acute water shortage, forcing residents of the affected localities to buy private tankers at exorbitant rates or consume sub-soil unhygienic water at the cost of their health.

The hard-hit areas include Nazimabad No 4, parts of PIB Colony, Jehangir Road quarters, North Karachi’s sectors 11-C/1 (Sir Syed Town), 11-C/2; Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s blocks 4, 4-A, 8, 9, 18 and 19, Bath Island, Clifton’s blocks 2 and 4, North Nazimabad’s block L, Korangi Nos. 1-1/2 and 2, Muzaffarabad Colony, Quaidabad, Federal B Area’s Block 8 (Mohammadi Colony), KDA Scheme No. 1 and Gulistan-i-Jauhar’s block 4.

Residents of the affected localities complained that although water shortage problem had been lingering on since long, the concerned water and sanitation department officials have not yet taken measures to rectify the fault.

Residents of Baldia and Orangi said that prior to the current suspension of water supply from the Hub dam source, they used to receive water after every 72 hours. However, they added, water was now being supplied in a cycle of more than 100 hours.

Residents of Mohammadi Colony said water was not supplied to their locality since Sept 30.
