KARACHI: Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) maintained their unbeaten run in the third Naya Nazimabad Ramazan Cricket Tournament when they defeated Shaboo Star CC Quetta by three wickets at the Lawai Cricket Stadium here in Wednesday night.

DIB’s third victory meant they topped Group ‘C’, while leaving Shaboo Star CC and Candyland to fight it out for the other quarter0final place from this pool.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Shaboo Star CC struggled to 108-9 in the stipulated 20 overs. Badar Ali was the top scorer with 25.

Slow left-armer Wasim Ali and pacer Zahoor Khan returned identical bowling figures of three for 15 each while all-rounder Kamran Ghulam took 2-15 with his off-spinners.

DIB looked on course for an easy triumph but once opener Ashan Ali was dismissed for a 40-ball 43 (five boundaries), they found themselves in trouble.

But Ammar Hasan came to their rescue with a timely contribution of 35 from 45 deliveries with one six and one four as his side won the final ball of the match. He was adjudged man-of-the-match.

Slow left-armer Mohibullah claimed two wickets for only two runs.

Summarised scores:

SHABOO STAR CC QUETTA 108-9 in 20 overs (Badar Ali 25, Ali Raza 19, Atif Maqbool 17; Wasim Ali 3-15, Zahoor Khan 3-15, Kamran Ghulam 2-16); DUBAI ISLAMIC BANK 109-7 in 20 overs (Ahsan Ali 43, Ammar Hasan 35; Mohibullah 2-2).
