OKARA: An advocate, district public prosecutor (DPP), assistant district public prosecutor (ADPP) and a woman drug-pusher were booked on the report of a record keeper of the Deepalpur additional district and sessions court for allegedly creating a fake first information (FIR) report to secure bail of the drug dealer behind bars for three months.

The Tehsil Bar Association (TBA) went on a strike against the arrest of the advocate. Three months ago, Mumtaz Bibi alias Taji had been arrested by Haveli Lakha police after 2.75kg of hashish was seized from her possession.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Faisal Rana, Mumtaz’s bail applications had been rejected from lower as well as the Lahore High Court.

A few days ago, Mumtaz was granted bail by the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Tariq Javed. Later, the court and police found out she had managed to get bail through a fake FIR allegedly prepared by Advocate Rana Qasim. The judge sent a letter to the DPO about the fake FIR and the subsequent bail.

Bar protests arrest

Deepalpur City police registered a case under sections 420, 468 and 471 of the PPC on the report of court record keeper Shahbaz Masih against Advocate Qasim and DPP Ashraf Bhatti, ADPP Zubair Khalid and Mumtaz.

Following the FIR, police arrested Advocate Qasim and others. On the arrest of the bar member, TBA lawyers went on a strike and shouted slogans against police.

ACCIDENT: Two boys on a motorcycle were killed on the spot on Sunday night when their vehicle collided with a tractor-trolley on Okara-Satgrah Road near 33/2RA village.

Their bodies were taken to the DHQ Hospital where one of them was identified as Jafar of village 9/1-R.
