Rs31 billion GB budget presented

GILGIT: The newly-elected Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman, presented a Rs31.92 billion budget for the year 2015-16 in the Legislative Assembly on Sunday.

In his budget speech, he said that Rs21.984bn had been allocated for non-development expenditures and Rs9.937bn for development works.

He said the budget was development-oriented with maximum relief planned for people.

Mr Rehman said that in budgetary allocations priority had been accorded to energy, health, education and communication sectors. The chief minister said his government was committed to providing basic necessities of life to people at their doorstep.

He said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project would bring revolution in the standard of living of local people.

He said efforts would be made for promotion of harmony among people.

Speaker Fida Mohammad Noushad presided over the session.
