Danish shines in facile win

KARACHI: Alamgir Gymkhana, inspired by a fine half-century from Danish Aziz, sealed a consolation 11-run victory over Azad Innovators in the third Naya Nazimabad Ramazan Cricket Tournament at the Lawai Cricket Stadium here on Saturday night.

Already out of contention for the knockout phase after losing opening two Group ‘B’ fixtures, Alamgir Gymkhana collected 197-9 in the stipulated 20 overs.

Danish struck a quickfire 66 off just 31 balls with half a dozen sixes and four fours. Saad Zia made a 27-ball 33 with three sixes.

Left-arm spinner Inamullah captured three wickets for 33 runs and off-spinner Zameer Khan took 2-11.

Azad Innovators, in reply, were restricted to 186-6 in 20 overs with Hasan Ahmed scoring 45 off 31 balls (Six fours and a six) and Inamullah an unbeaten 33 (three sixes and two boundaries).

Mohammad Iqbal, tournament director who graced the match as the chief guest, presented the man-of-the-match award to Danish Aziz in a simple ceremony which was also attended by tournament secretary Azhar Iqbal and Ahmer Ali Rizvi, the marketing manager of Naya Nazimabad.
