LAHORE: A woman was hospitalised in serious condition after an unidentified man threw acid on her in the Nawankot area on Friday.

Farah Bibi, a resident of Bilal Colony, was alone at her house when the man knocked at the door. As she opened the door, he threw acid on her and fled.

Bibi has four children and her husband is abroad for livelihood.

Quoting some witnesses, a police official said the man visited the house of acid victim in the guise of a postman. He said the real motive behind this crime could not be ascertained as Farah was unable to give statement to the police due to her serious condition.

The identity of the attacker is yet to be established. The police official said they were trying to get data of the woman’s cell phone to trace the suspect.

ACCIDENT: One passenger died while 20 others were injured, three of them seriously, when a bus overturned near Johar Town on Friday.

Rescue 1122 officials said the incident took place due to speeding. A man later identified as Javed died at the spot while 20 others, including the driver and six women, suffered multiple injuries. They were rushed to Jinnah Hospital.

Suicide: A police constable reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself in the temple at his Samanabad residence on Friday.

Identified as Majid Ali, the constable was posted at Defence police station. A police official said Majid took the extreme step over some family problems. He said the victim returned home after his duty and locked himself in his room to shoot himself. — Staff Reporter
