LANDI KOTAL: A pedestrian was killed and two Khasadar personnel and three other people were injured in a bomb explosion at Torkham border on Friday.

According to officials, explosives concealed in a pushcart loaded with used automobile parts were detonated by remote control. A man had crossed the border from Afghanistan with the pushcart.

“Border guards and the Khasadar personnel ran for safety when they spotted the explosive device in the pushcart which was then detonated by remote control,” border officials said.

The man killed was identified as Dinar Gul, an Afghan national.

The Khasadar force’s Stana Gul of Loe Shalman and Nek Zar of Ashkhel were injured along with three civilians — Jouhar, Gula Baz and Arshad.

Security personnel cordoned off the area after the incident and sealed the border crossing for some time. A search operation was conducted but no suspect could be arrested.

The injured personnel were taken to Peshawar for treatment because their injuries were critical. The three civilians were brought to the Landi Kotal hospital.

The body of the Afghan national handed over to officials of his country on the border.

Security officials said the explosion took place just after Friday prayers and there were few people on the border at the time.
