RAWALPINDI: Pakistan will now have a regularly constituted Mujahid Force with rank structure similar to that of Pakistan Army up to a level. It will have Commissioned Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and other ranks. According to an Inter-Services Public Relations release, Mujahid Units will be raised by the order of the Commander-in-Chief Army, and will normally serve in the districts in which the units are raised. This also applies to the personnel of the force. Mujahid Force officially designated as Pakistan Mujahid Force, has been constituted under an Ordinance promulgated on June 8, 1965. The Ordinance also lays down principles for the enrolment, transfer, discharge, and discipline etc of the force. According to the Ordinance, the Mujahids for legal purposes will be deemed part of the Pakistan Army and will be treated at par with Army personnel of the corresponding ranks.

[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies from Beirut] King Hussein of Jordan has taken up contacts with Saudi Arabia and Egypt through diplomatic channels in a bid to mediate between the two countries on the Yemeni issue, informed sources said here yesterday. The Jordanian Monarch’s immediate target is to bring about a cease-fire in the Yemen, to be followed up by persuading Saudi Arabia to discontinue its support for the Yemeni Royalists and Egypt for the Republicans, the same sources added.
