ISLAMABAD, Oct 5: A meeting of the variety evaluation committee (VEC) was held at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) for approval of wheat varieties developed in the NWFP and Sindh.

Two proposals were presented before the VEC forum, which approved one of them submitted by Breeder, Shamadad Khanzada, PSO, NIA, Tandojam, Sindh, after analysis of the technical data for cultivation in Sindh. The meeting was presided over by Dr Mohammad Ashraf, chairman of the VEC.

Shamadad Khanzada, principal scientific officer, Nuclear Institute of Agriculture, Tandojam, told the meeting that new wheat variety Bhittai (SD-120014) was a high-yielding variety and had exhibited resistance to leaf and yellow rust in trial conducted throughout Pakistan.
