Marriage Ord being violated

Published October 6, 2003

FAISALABAD, Oct 5: The district government has failed to implement the Punjab Marriage Functions (Prohibition of Ostentatious Display and Wasteful Expenses) Rules 2003, as lavish feasts are being arranged and buildings being illuminated with impunity, according to a survey.

Roads and streets are frequently blocked for marriages.

High-ranking police and administrative officers and members of the union, tehsil and district governments are seen attending marriages where lavish meals are served in violation of the rules.

The local police, administrators and councillors, duty-bound to take legal action against violators of the marriage ordinance, have failed to round up a single person in the last couple of months in this connection, which is a point to ponder for the authors of this ordinance.
