LAHORE: The City District Government of Lahore health wing will launch the first-ever eight-day intra-muscular polio drive in 74 vulnerable union councils from Monday (tomorrow), pledging to cover the children aged between four months and two years.

The drive will be launched in selected UCs of Data Ganj Bakhsh, Ravi, Samanabad, Allama Iqbal, Gulberg and Aziz Bhatti towns, according to CDGL.

Since the drive is the first of its kind, all the target children will be administered polio drops through injections.

The CDGL will establish special centres and booths at hundreds of points/locations from where the social mobilisers would visit door-to-door to bring the children to camps and inject them with polio drops there.

“It is our moral and religious duty to save our children from any sort of disease. Therefore, we should cooperate with the mobile teams and take children to these camps for vaccination,” DCO Muhammad Usman said while presiding over a meeting held here on Saturday.

Talking to the media, he appreciated journalists for playing a positive role in making the Zimbabwe team’s visit to Lahore a success.

To a question, he said the Ramazan plan had almost been finalised to ensure availability of essential commodities to the consumers.

On the other hand, a CDGL special squad on Saturday arrested 15 beggars, including seven women, for seeking alms at various roads and intersections of the city.

The officials, however, shifted the detained beggars to Edhi Centre and Subhani homes for rehabilitation, according to a spokesman.

LDA AVENUE: The LDA on Saturday asked the affected people, who were recently allotted alternative plots in Avenue-1 scheme through a ballot, to take possession of their property by June 30 after clearing dues.

“Since it will be the last chance for the affected, their plots will be considered cancelled after the deadline.

Meanwhile, according to a LDA spokesman, the names of newly recruited assistant director (civil engineering) has been announced.
