QUETTA/KHUZDAR: A flash flood overwhelmed three villages in Saroona and Shah Noorani areas of Khuzdar district late on Wednesday night, leaving at least 13 people dead.

Seven people were said to be missing. Hundreds of people have been rendered homeless.

A large number of mud houses were washed away by the flash flood caused by heavy rains in vast mountainous areas of Wadh, Saroona and Shah Noorani in Khuzdar and Lasbela districts.

The district administration of Khuzdar declared an emergency and launched a rescue operation.

Personnel of Frontier Corps and Levies were shifting people to safe places.

An official of the Balochistan government told Dawn that livestock in large numbers had been swept away.

He said efforts were under way to locate missing people in Gullo Goth, Kehain and Minar — the villages said to have been most seriously affected.
