ISLAMABAD: Looks like the PML-N government will be winning quite a few hearts with the launch of its mega bus project as everyone from senior citizens to daily wage workers is eagerly anticipating its inauguration in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will inaugurate the multi-billion rupee project on June 4 (tomorrow).
Speaking to APP on Wednesday, a senior citizen in Islamabad Haji Abdul Ghafoor said that the metro bus service is a wonderful project, enabling people of all age groups to arrive at their destination on a timely basis.
He lavished praise on the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government for fulfilling its promise, and completing the project in record time.
Ghafoor said this project would also help people across different parts of the country, who visited the federal capital for varying engagements — especially tourists.
A teacher at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Farhat Batool — who is a resident of Rawalpindi — said undoubtedly the metro bus project is for all segments of the society, but students of the twin cities, in particular, would benefit more as its route passed through many academic institutions.

A resident of Rawalpindi — Muhammad Shabbir — stated that the metro bus project would enable employees of the government and private sectors to reach their offices in time, adding that it would also help to improve their performance.
He said that the business community would also be happy over this service, and added that the project would render positive results for the business community in general.
For labourer Muhammad Junaid, the metro bus project means travelling with family members at affordable prices, and for that he is eternally happy.
The track of the metro bus service will start from Flashman's Hotel Chowk on Murree road and end at Pak Secretariat, covering a total distance of about 23 kilometres.

In order to ensure better accessibility for the residents of the twin cities, 24 metro bus stations have been constructed along the 23 kilometre route. Out of these, ten are on Rawalpindi's Murree road while the remaining 14 are in Islamabad. The bus fare for a 20-minute travel would be Rs20.
Some added incentives include a car parking and air conditioned sitting arrangements for passengers. The bus service would be monitored by a central control system.

One can never argue against the benefits of mega infrastructure projects. Question is weather government had undertaken a diligent exercise of setting the priorities on scientific basis and based on expert opinion - are we putting our money where our mouth is ? i.e., Education and health of common citizens. If the answer is yes I welcome the metro project. Congratulations !

I am very much happy for any neat and clean project of Country. Now it is the duty of parents and elders to urge kids to take care this is the property of public. Please do not break the bus it is heart of poor passengers. Students may enjoy damaging during political problems. But it will be sin more than crime. It would be better for Pakistan to launch tram or train system in whole country and in big cities. Bus is soft cake for students and they are kidding with bus and enjoying to break the glass. May be many of previous students have done in past.

I believe Pakistanis will never be happy on anything. Whatever good somebody does, we find faults with it. I believe we must appreciate whatever good is done though striving to do more and in every field. We have had ample leaders (including our favourite IK) who have done nothing so far practically. One can argue the priorities should be different but let's appreciate the hard work and achievement. This is asset of Pakistan for next 100s years. Ordinary people of all classes n all parties will enjoy it not only PMLN.

Metro Bus project is undoubtedly a great work. However, should it be a priority for govt.? In a country where people are starving, more than half of the population living under the line of poverty, a huge number of future generation is out of schools. In short, I am all for the development but we need to set our priorities right? Metro Bus is great but shouldn't be a priority. This govt. needs to set its priorities right. It seems like the govt. is building vote banks and not the nation. The difference between a politician and a leader is politician thinks about winning next election after coming into power and the leader thinks about building a nation. PMLN has great politicians .... No Leaders !

@shoukat In developing nations many projects go side by side. So your argument does not make sense to me. Secondly it is a Punjab government project and this province fare better in other indicators than those provinces who do not spend anything on transportation projects. Infrastructure development especially in transportation is the first step towards progress in my view. Also I have lived my life in Pindi and anyone from a lower/middle class know that how much problematic it was to travel between twin cities. Infact this project will improve the time efficiency as many students and workers will now reach on time in their schools, offices and factories.

On Google maps, rawalpindi looks like a big mismanaged slum compared to Islamabad. The 50 billion rupees for this metrobus in my opinion should have been used to build affordable housing in planned housing societies for the middle class who cannot afford a house in bahria town.

Though looks good with all that sheen and gleam, and public transport is a major problem of students, office goers, patients going to Islamabad from Rawalpindi, they have to bear the crowded wagons and small buses which are always full and uncomfortable. In this regard this is a good project.
Here is another side of the story, If instead of a separate corridor and with elevated tracks in Rawalpindi, with huge bus stations made, which are the reason for cost escalation, the buses could have been run on the existing roads, just like a normal public transport system with good buses, not these extra long buses.
It could have saved huge money, the green belts destroyed on 9th avenue and the blue are main boulevard could have been saved. Islamabad characteristic is a 'clean and green' city and should remain so. More trees need to be planted in the route and other areas as well, trees makes the atmosphere cooler, reduces noise, air pollution and induces rains.

I wish if metro bus system could transform into clean drinking water, poorly maintained government facilities (school, clinics, hospitals, government offices, list goes on) into good facilities, genuine and honest people of Sharif's class (businessmen, industrialists, bankers, traders), which is impossible.
All those who believe that roads like motorway and metro project will make Pakistan Singapore or some other country or city, they must be living in world of their own making, I don't want to say, 'fool's paradise.'

Transportation experts will tell you that long buses (they even need longer ones) are the solution. So lets leave the design part to the professionals rather than second guessing a good project that will serve the people of Pindi.

We all sit in our air-conditioned cars and houses and criticize metro service (I feel ashamed); the one that solely benefit are the poor and middle-income bread-winners; quite a few of those will be students from poor families who would, for the first time in their life, take an air-conditioned ride and in that process experience a passion that help them dream of working hard toward a life that they duly deserve and should be their destiny.

@Realist This thing cost the country 44Billion rupees - all borrowed money. I am sure that the running cost of this will be subsidized by the taxpayers as well. Meanwhile the Orange line in Lahore is expected to cost another 165 Billion. How about finishing Neelum Hydropower, Islamabad Airport and commencing work on many other hydropower projects that are awaiting funding!

It is hard fact that economic development stems from good infrastructure. Poverty reduction, education, health, quality of life is interlinked. Not denying the need of spending more on education and health sector, reducing the distance between people, markets, services and knowledge – or simply ‘getting people connected’ – is a great part of what economic growth is all about.
Although virtual connectivity has become increasingly important today with the emergence of new communication avenues, a good and reliable transport network remains vital especially in developing countries. There is a very strong positive correlation between a country's economic development and the quality of its road network. As a nation, I think we should start appreciating the good work across political divide alongside constructive criticism.

@IMRAN calm down dear. I have appreciated and congratulated them on completion of this project but reminded them to focus on the real issues now.
A middle class female or male have to drink clean water, have to have electricity to get ready to go to school or to work, have to be able to get medicines when needed, have to be protected from corrupt officials in every department, etc. those are the priorities of middle class and lower middle class, and I'm one of those classes myself. I'm not being political when I ask the present government to look at these matters. They happen to be this lot as they promised ALL of us to solve our problems within months. They obviously didn't realise that they were making huge promises at the time of the elections.
Let all of us remind them all the time what they promised rather than simply congratulate them on a project that is of their choice.

Only the pindi/ISb resident knows the pain they have gone through in for almost one and half years in the name of development. Metro is running but commuter are suffering due to uncompleted work on both Murree Road and many section at ISB. Each time he is in power he gave some big gift to common people of Pakistan regardless party affiliation, gender, sect or any other differentiation. Only common people traveling by buses can realized the benefit. People living in palaces and travelling by parado and Mercedes could not imagine the benefit of such projects

The problem with Pakistanis is that someone will make a road and they will be happy. They will think nothing is done if police, educational and health sections are improved (KP).
Even metro bus plan is a failed program in India, where public train like system is being used, or subways in western countries.

I don't have any problem with MBS, it's good, fast and clean commute (Hopefully remain the same) however for political gains and other's 'Jo Dikhta hai Wo Bikta hai'. Who cares about Education, electricity, clean water and most important healthcare. You wouldn't sell it to public during elections because not one can see it or it doesn't appear easily.

I hope and pray this service is put in place in Multan and Faisalabad without delay. Each time I visited Pakistan and saw poor being transported like cattle in broken buses, always broke my heart. It is against human dignity and bad for the self-esteem of any individual. God bless those involved in the project namely; Hanif Abbasi, Shahbaz Shareef and obviously Nawaz Shareef alongwith the entire team of PML-N leaders.

In London, roads have bus lanes, the cost signs and paint. Buses don't run as fast as those in a dedicated corridor, but are still popular and convenient. Cameras watch the bus lanes , so any vehicle that uses them that shouldn't gets an automatic fine in the post.
Also bus lanes can be signed for only use in rush hour and can be used by taxis and cyclists.
Rs 49 billion could be saved and spent on social infrastructure or half a submarine with a bit of thought !

Now it has been built there no point to critisize it, although I still say the project is ill concieved. The existing roads should have been used for the public transportaction on a much smaller price as a result other cities across Punjab/Pakistan would have benefited with good public transport rather only Islamabad, pindi and Lahore. anyway hope it is a success.

Nawaz brothers have craze of making roads. In my area in Rawalpindi there is 8-12 hours loadshedding and there seems no way to solve this problem even after two years. May be people can enjoy a hour drive in air-conditioned bauses and try to forget about everything.

Now all Pakistanis are proud of its Nuclear power status and frequent user of Motorway. Just think when a student instead of traveling on bus roof top will reach educational institution honourably via Metro; his performance will certainly enhance. Patients will easily reach hospital also as two major hospitals are on Metro route.

It is a good project and I believe every large city in Pakistan should have a public transportation system.
For delivering education and healthcare to the masses you need a good infrastructure network. infrastructure is the glue that brings everything together.

PML (N) Govt as usual collecting 70% its revenue from Karachi & not spending single penny on Karachi development & its necessities.
What an open discrimination? They never thought about the consequances of these discrimination.
We have seen the consequances in the past & as a result Bangledash came in to existence & doing better than Pakistan in all fields of the life.

Just a technical look at the bus station, this glass box gonna be oven in summer, high glass facade have no shading, insulation again heat gains, there is no AC which is obvious from pictures, poor design is a engineering disaster

this govt always believes in ostentation, means visible projects. Behind these projects they don't care about the lamenting conditions of education, health, clean water, sanitation, energy, security etc.
if my parents or child are sick I can use a metro bus to reach hospital but I know how and how much I would have to spend there.
If there is no clean water how a healthy nation can be brought up.
If there is no quality and cheap education how would I afford my child for further education.
I can use a road with humps and ditches but please do prioritise your policies on spending more on education, health and clean water than doing things which are needed to be as one of the last priorities.
Dear PM the days are gone when people had to be cheated with a bone in their mouth and the flesh had to be chewed up by your dears.

3 doctors for 1000 patients

Road structure and means of communication are first things to come to uplift society. Every things comes after that. It is good efforts of govt and we all should appreciate it. Those who want education, health and other things before communication need to know that no doctor or teacher will go to areas where there is no road or transport. I am not big fan of Noon League, but understand it is my moral duty as a Pakistani to appreciate them whenever they do some thing good for out country.

This government should set its priorities in right order, what has this government done to avoid deaths in future due to starvation and lack of medical facilities. The word Justice is absent from their dictionary high number of deaths due to state terrorism in Lahore last year and no action yet; Why?

Is the Prime minister or his brother paying for this ? NO so dont act as if you did anyone a favor. Did any of the industires owned by Mr. Sharif and his family benefit from this? that is the question we should be asking. We need electricity, education and healthcare. Not expensive bus serives.

Why not for Karachi generating 85% revenue of Pakistan people travelling on top of buses, diesel, dirty, Sindh CM have no job to have good transport for this father less city, also there r no facility of water, electricity, education, health. We requesting now Gen.Rahil COAS, corp Comand. Karachi Lt Gen Mukhtar to provide us all these facilities.

Good job PMLN, but Education, Healthcare, Clean Water should go hand in hand with Metro bus projects.
No doubt, infrastructure is a must for the better economies so does the Education.
Please Do Not leave the Healthcare and Clean Water projects for UNO.
