KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad sought Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Chairman Ahmed Chinoy's resignation on Tuesday, reported DawnNews.

According to sources, the provincial government has also decided to move the CPLC office from Governor House to the police headquarters.

An official handout released from the Chief Minister House quotes the Sindh home minister and Police Inspector General telling the CM that "necessary arrangements have been made to shift CPLC from Governor House to Police Headquarters."

Sources further said the governor, after consulting Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, will announce a new CPLC chief in the coming days for which names of potential candidates have been sought from the provincial government.

When contacted, a CPLC spokesman said there had been no official communication between the CPLC and the Governor House over the chairman's resignation.

Rangers personnel raided Chinoy’s house in January this year and questioned him for a considerable period in addition to confiscating documents from his home.

Chinoy had himself confirmed to a private news channels that his house was raided by Rangers in a move he said was an "attempt to tarnish his image."

But in a dramatic turn of events, he later changed his stance when he told a press conference that “no raid was conducted and the media was spreading disinformation based on anonymous sources”.

Chinoy, in his press conference, had denied rumours that an amount of Rs1.5 million was recovered from his house, adding that he had no involvement in any kidnapping-for-ransom case.
