LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore, on Monday filed a reference against eight officials of the Railways, Pakistan Steel Mills and two contractors in a ‘pig iron case’ in the accountability court.

According to a spokesman, investigation proceedings into the case involving misappropriation of Rs48.2 million were initiated in December 2013. Subsequently a couple of days ago the NAB executive board approved filing of the reference against the accused.

“Six railways officers, including Zahoor Khattak, then chief controller purchase, Akhtar Saeed, then general manager operations, two Pakistan Steel Mills officers and two independent contractors were allegedly involved in misuse of authority, embezzlement of railways funds, causing a loss to the national exchequer and illegal award of a contract for the purchase of 5,000 metric ton of pig iron.
