WASHINGTON, Oct 3: Several members of the US House International Committee urged Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali to stop cross-border attacks in occupied Kashmir when he visited the Capitol Hill, said a statement issued on Friday.
The demand for stopping the attacks was led by Chairman of the Indian Caucus in Congress, Joseph Crowley, says a statement issued by his office.
Congressman Crowley demanded to know what Pakistan was doing to stop “cross-border terrorism” into India, an issue that unless resolved will continue to block a full-scale dialogue between India with Pakistan, the statement said.
“I am deeply concerned about the effort Pakistan is making to stop terrorism from its territory. What specifically concerns me is cross-border infiltration into India. Over the past weeks I have seen continued attacks against the people of Kashmir and Indian troops. When is Pakistan going to stop groups from waging this terrorist war against India,” Mr Crowley asked.
Congressman Crowley continued: “I am also very concerned about the situation faced by Christians in Pakistan, particularly the landless tenants of Okara military farms. Constituents in my district have repeatedly brought this issue to my attention. The law-enforcement agencies and the paramilitary force of Rangers have been carrying out atrocities to force the peasants to quit their struggle for the land ownership rights.”
