NEW YORK: Yemeni national Saddiq Al Abbadi, charged with fighting against American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan as a member of Al Qaeda, pleaded guilty to federal terror charges on Tuesday, according to the US attorney’s office in Brooklyn.

Al Abbadi was seized on warrants and extradited to the US from Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

“The defendant was a high-level Al Qaeda operative with ties to the terrorist group’s senior leadership in both Pakistan and Yemen,” acting US Attorney Kelly

Currie said in a statement released here . “We stand resolute in our commitment to bring to justice those who would try to harm members of our military or who assist Al Qaeda’s efforts to kill Americans at home or abroad.”

According to the initial complaint Al Abadi fought against Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan as a member of Al Qaeda.
