KARACHI: Spinners Fawad Khan and Faraz Ahmed Khan shared 15 wickets between them to help Zone-VI inflict a nine-wicket defeat on Zone-III in their opening fixture of the PCB Senior Inter-district Karachi Region Cricket Tournament at the TMC Ground here on Monday.

Batting first, Zone-VI rattled up 335-8 in the allotted first-innings quota of 83 overs. Opener Fazal Subhan hit eight boundaries and one six in making 65 and Danish Aziz struck six fours and one six in his knock of 59.

Slow left-armer Amjad Manzoor was the Zone-III’s most successful bowler with four wickets for 92, while part-timer Zeeshan Jamil picked up three wickets for 71 runs.

Zone-III, in reply, were all out for 126 in 45 overs with Fahad Mahmood contributing an unbeaten 46. The left-arm duo of Fawad and Faraz caused the damage with 6-50 and 4-63, respectively.

Forced to follow on, Zone-III rallied to reach 261 before being dismissed in the 71st over. Shahzar Hasan batted defiantly to strike eight boundaries and one six in an undefeated 78.

Faraz claimed three wickets for 61 runs to finish with match bag of seven for 124, while Fawad took 2-95, giving him eight for 145 in total for the match.

Needing 53, Zone-VI knocked off the required runs in just 6.3 overs as they collected 55-1.
