ISLAMABAD, Oct 3: Gen Pervez Musharraf should directly hold talks with Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif if he wants to resolve the current political and constitutional crisis in the country, said MNA Nabil Gabol of People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP).
Talking to a group of newsmen at the cafeteria of the Parliament House after boycotting the National Assembly session here on Friday, Mr Gabol said Benazir Bhutto was ready to hold talks with Gen Musharraf to help take the country out of the crisis.
He said Benazir Bhutto knew that the country was facing a 1970-like situation when Gen Yahya had to call Zulfikar Ali Bhutto from abroad for help. Similarly, he said, Gen Musharraf had no other option but to invite Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif for talks as they were the heads of Pakistan’s two largest political parties.
He was of the view that Gen Musharraf had intentionally trapped the opposition parties in the LFO issue but in the process pushed the country itself into a huge crisis.
Mr Gabol said the speaker had to adjourn the National Assembly due to lack of quorum for a second time in the week, which showed that the treasury members were also not interested in the proceedings.
The PPP MNA said the treasury members were not taking any interest in the affairs after Prime Minister Jamali told them that he was powerless.
