International cricket returned to Pakistan on Friday after six, long years.

Thousands of die hard fans braved the scorching Lahore heat and gathered at the infamous Gaddafi stadium to watch the Pakistan cricket team battle it out with Zimbabwe, kicking off Twenty20 international.

Celebrities and socialities flocked to watch the men in green.

Humaima Malick, Ali Zafar and Ayesha Omar are just a few of the big names who attended the game.

Cricket fans from across the border also offered words of encouragement.

|
However, no one was more excited than the cricketers themselves.
|
|
|
Ahmad Shahzad in particular was bursting with joy.
|
He even attempted to take a selfie with the crowd (and failed miserably).
|
Judging by the amount of selfies uploaded on social media, it seems like everyone took this advice pretty seriously.

All in all, it was a good day for cricket crazy Pakistanis.

Why is Gaddafi stadium'infamous'? I can understand if Pakistan is infamous because of the attack on Srilankan team, but why Gaddafi?

when we play against tough teams like India & Australia we
loose miserably and when we win against weak teams like
Zimbabwe we celebrate as if we have won the world cup.

The Dawn Entertainment Desk published this introductory paragraph about two hours ago. He or she used the word "infamous" for the Gaddafi Stadium Lahore. It seems that the author is totally unaware of the meaning of the word. For his knowledge, the correct meaning of the word from the Dictionary is as follows:
infamous
[in-fuh-muh s]
"having an extremely bad reputation, deserving of or causing an evil reputation; shamefully malign; detestable: an infamous deed".
Now, will the author of the the article explain how he can justify to use the word "infamous" for the beautiful city & the lovely people of Lahore, thus indirectly calling them evil & shameful.

@Ali Imran Does not matter who Pakistan plays with or they win or lose. It needs to crawl before it walks and needs to come out from the shadows of bad reputation for safety. We all hope and only wish saner sense will prevail from the terrorists who on a regular basis have been killing innocents even when people are enjoying sports.

@Aich - Perhaps the stadium should be renamed. Why name it after Gaddafi? He was hardly "famous" - a dictator at the end killed by rebel fighters beating him before he was shot several times.

The word infamous used by the writer for the Gaddafi stadium has pained me. It is a place in the record for worlds where many great and magnificent matches were played. If the administration had failed in its duty to provide protection to the visiting team. It does not make the place infamous of black. Please reconsider. We have too many great memories attached to this lovely stadium.

Why terrorists don't like cricket or for that matters any thing recreational ? Why being happy is so sinful ? State of being happy and means to bring happiness in society has transformed from medieval ages . Sports is Godly and cricket is divine . Great positive news . Buck up from India .

@Ali Imran it really isn't about winning a cricket match. It's about standing up in the face of extremism which has crippled us for years. It's one small step towards a peaceful and prosperous Pakistan. I am not a cricket enthusiast myself but I would love to have foreign teams lining up on our grounds for sports.

BTW, where is Sania Mirza?? She should be in the stadium cheering and supporting her hubby, as he does when she's playing tennis. If she can't support him in his career, then is this a one-sided deal?? Shoaib Malik should not attend Sania's tennis matches anymore if she can't be there for him.

@Muhd Adil - Its "infamous " because Sri Lanka Cricket team were shot at by terrorists at this stadium. Its because of the attack that cricket stopped in Pakistan. So it has a "bad reputation" for that reason.
