SWABI: The number of total registered voters in the district has surged to 783,691 for the coming local government elections from 705,918 of the 2013 general elections as population of the district has crossed the 1.8 million mark, according sources in the local election commission office.

There are total 56 union councils in Swabi district and the data collected from the district office says that over 77,773 new voters have been registered for the May 30 elections. The sources said that all the new voters were between the ages of 18 and 19. An official said that the new voters would play a crucial role in the coming elections.

The sources said that the election commission had registered around 133,511 new voters in the district for the 2013 general elections, taking the tally of electorates to 705,918. They said that the total number of female voters for LG elections was 336,057, but usually fewer women polled their votes because of various reasons.

The number of the youth voters has increased manifold. “The youngsters will play a crucial role in the election,” said Ameer Rehman, former MPA of Awami National Party.


All new voters between the ages of 18 and 19, says official


In Swabi, the total number of voters is 215,770, including 92,810 women; in Topi tehsil 147,613, including 63,055 women; in Chota Lahor tehsil 146,374, including 61,318 women and in Razaar tehsil, there are 273,934 voters, including 118,874 women.

MURDER MYSTERY SOLVED: The mystery behind the murder of a Pakistani-American has been solved as the alleged killers confessed that they had killed him after taking Rs1.2 million from his brother.

DPO Sajjad Khan told media persons here on Friday that the police after tracing phone calls of the alleged killers of Shah Jahan reached the real culprit.

The murder took place a week ago in Agosta village here when Mr Jahan stayed alone in his house after arrival from America.

Mr Khan said that the accused persons confessed that Aurangzeb, brother of Mr Jahan, had given them Rs1.2 million for killing his brother. The motive behind the murder is stated to be a property dispute.

CRUCIAL MEETING: An important meeting of the lawmakers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the federal government would be held on Tuesday to discuss the original China-Pakistan Economic Corridor plan and excessive power loadshedding in the province, said KP Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar here on Friday.

He said that talks would be held to reduce the power outages in the province. He said that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led government would continue its efforts for the rights of the province and its people. He hoped that a solution to the problems would be found by the federal and provincial governments.
