MANSEHRA: The National Commission for Human Development has begun an inquiry into the alleged embezzlement of funds meant for improving educational standards, checking school dropouts and increasing school enrolments in the district.

The inquiry was initiated against the NCHD Mansehra general manager, district programme manager and other relevant staff members on May 11 after the affected head teachers contacted the directorate general of the commission.

“We have initiated the inquiry on the orders of NCHD director general Allah Buksh Malik. We’ve been given a fortnight to complete the inquiry and submit a report,” head of the three-member probe committee Arshad Durrani told Dawn.

The committee, which began inquiry on the written complaints of heads teachers of around 2,059 boys and girls primary schools in the district, summoned complainants to record statements on the matter.

President of the Senior Teachers Association Shad Mohammad Khan said the corruption of NCHD officials had adversely affected the school enrolment campaign.

He said the NCHD corrupt officials were a major hurdle to promotion of quantity education in the district.
