QUETTA: Saulat Mirza, the killer of the KESC’s former managing director Shahid Hamid, was hanged at Balochistan’s Mach Central Prison in the small hours of Tuesday. He had been on death row for 16 years.

Saulat was brought to the gallows at 4.25am and hanged at 4.30am, the jail’s superintendent said.

Dr Sajjad examined Saulat’s health before the execution and declared him fit. The doctor pronounced him dead after the hanging.

The body was handed over to his two nieces and a nephew at Mach Jail.

It was shifted to the Edhi morgue in Quetta, accompanied by 18 members of his family. The body was later taken to Quetta airport and then flown to Karachi for burial.

According to sources, just before his execution the jail officials gave Saulat a pen and a piece of paper so that he could jot down a message for his family, but he declined the offer.

Judicial Magistrate Hidayatullah was present at the time.
