Shaharyar optimistic about Pakistan-India Test series in December

NEW DELHI: Pakistan wants to host the first bilateral Test tour by India in eight years in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in December, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan said on Sunday after meeting Indian board chief Jagmohan Dalmiya in Kolkata.
The tour, comprising three Tests, five one-dayers and two Twenty20 games is part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) last year to play five series in the next eight years.
“We want to resume India-Pakistan series in the UAE,” Khan told reporters after a meeting with BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya in Kolkata on Sunday.
“Preparations are in full swing. We have to overcome the final hurdle because an India-Pakistan series is more important than any series in world cricket.”

The reluctance of the Indian government to clear bilateral cricket matches against Pakistan due to political tensions has meant the two nations have not contested a Test series since 2007.
But they continue to meet in multi-nation tournaments like the World Cup or the Champions Trophy.
Dalmiya said he was hopeful the series will go ahead ─ provided the Modi government gave the green signal.
“We are very hopeful of reviving the series .. But a few things need to be sorted out. Without the support of the federal home ministry and the government, we can't go forward," he said.
The BCCI said in a statement that it was “desirable to recommence cricket contact” with Pakistan.

“After proactive discussions, since there are certain matters that need to be addressed and considered, it was decided to take appropriate steps,” the statement said.
“The two boards would be in regular touch and review the situation.”
Last year, Pakistan signed MoUs with the BCCI for six bilateral series to be contested during the next eight years, with Pakistan staging four of them.
Former PCB Chairman Najam Sethi who signed these MoUs had termed it a big success, claiming the PCB would earn a whopping Rs30 billion by hosting India in the proposed four series.

i dont understand why can't they just make the game independent and free of politics.why would they need permission from government and don't understand why in first place pakistan can not play in india or featured in IPL games.The ICC should take action against IPL owners or management because its against the spirit of the game.Every cricket playing nation's player should have the opportunity.

Why not play in India or Pakistan rather than in UAE? There is no logic in playing away from home in Arab land albeit with Indopak expatriate and other cricket tourists supporters. Of course the bulk of income is from TV rights but the fun of live action for the home crowd and the atmosphere will not be there. Maybe a couple of matches in Faislabad and another relatively safe venue and the rest in various parts of India?

GOI has no role to play here . BCCI decides what to do and what not to do . BCCI is an independent body. Mr.Modi is not selected at center to regulate cricket matches. But one thing is in GOI's control i.e. Playing inside India and Pakistan .

PK and India shouldn't care what their govt thinks. Fans and people have been victims to silly politics for far too long. Why should fans have to pay the price for their theatrics? Perhaps its time for citizens to send a message to politicians that ppl are fed up. India Vs Pak is one of the biggest if not the biggest rivalries in the history of sports.

Good. Pakistan can/will beat India in tests. Amir will be back by then and we will have a good pace attack with Amir, Wahab, Junaid and Irfan (if fit). India's test bowling outside India is nothing to fear. Unless Pakistan sort out their limited overs batting (main reason why we lose games) India will be favourites to win the ODIs though. Pak should prepare pacy wickets in UAE keeping in view India's recent record outside India. They have lost 12 of the last 14 tests played in England and Australia and despite their batting delivering on many occasions.

it will be embarrassing for players to play in the UAE, specially cos most Indian and Pakistani players are used to playing in front of big crowds. Players are performers and need an audience, TV telecast is not the same impact. PCB and BCCI are just in this MoU for the money, irrespective of the players burn out, does Team India have a window in their schedule for this series?

At first I would like to thanks BCCI President Mr. Jagmohan Dalmia and PCB Chairpersons Mr. Shaharyar Khan for trying to restart this exciting series again. Both are optimists, will start in December 15. But one thing I just want to say (it's my very own opinion) this particular series India vs Pakistan couldn't be start in Pakistan field. In my childhood time I saw many series in Pakistan cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Karachi. Lastly If I am wrong saw in 2002 in Pakistan field and that time Sachin and Dravid was played over there. I know that, there is some difficulties to organized this cricket series in your field because of 'Terrorist Problem' which most of innocent & general people like me are highly condemned. Lastly I would like to say if this series will starts again I will really very glad for it. Thanks to all.
