KARACHI: 1,000kg charas seized

KARACHI, Oct 1: The staff of excise and taxation department seized 1,000kg charas, which was being brought to Karachi from Peshawar in an oil tanker on the National Highway on Wednesday morning.

Giving details of the recovery, Director General Excise and Taxation Asif Marghoob said that the drug, worth Rs250 million in the international underground market, was being transported to Karachi for smuggling abroad. He said that the contraband was recovered from the secret cavities of oil tanker (K-9769).

In another operation, he said that the excise staff recovered five kilograms heroin from the possession of a bus passenger coming from Punjab to Karachi. The raid was conducted on the National Highway near Rohri.

During the last two months, the excise staff had recovered and seized 8,277kg hashish, 228kg bhang and 290kg opium leaves and five kilograms heroin, he said. During these seizures, the excise staff impounded two trucks, two buses and two oil tankers, he added.

Mr Marghoob said that he had conveyed the information about fresh seizure to Sindh Excise Minister Rauf Siddiqi, who was on a visit to Saudi Arabia. He said the minister had congratulated the excise staff for their continued achievements.— APP
