LAHORE: PPP leader Manzoor Wattoo has put the PML-N government should be embarrassed instead of taking pride in adding only 100MW to the national grid, that too after two years in power.

“The PML-N government had boasted to end load shedding in months rather than in years when it came into power in 2013 but it failed,” PPP central Punjab President Manzoor Wattoo said on Tuesday.

“The nation is grateful to the Chinese government’s assistance to set up the solar park in Bahawalpur.”

He said the addition of 100MW with such a fanfare was too little to make any difference in the face of huge shortfall ranging between 4,000 to 6000 MW, adding that loadshedding between 8 to 10 hours in urban areas and more than 12 hours in rural areas had made the life of masses miserable.

Mr Wattoo said the PPP government had added 3,400 MW to the national grid during its last tenure. He said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif should have used today’s ceremony of the inauguration of the Bahawalpur Solar Park for tendering apology to the nation for his failure to control loadshedding that he had committed during the election campaign.

He again invited Mr Sharif to Minar-i- Pakistan to protest the agonising loadshedding by holding hand made fans in his hands to replicate his tactics of protest during the PPP tenure of government.
