ISLAMABAD, Sept 30: Top seed Rupesh Roy of India swept into the quarterfinals of the ITF Pakistan International Junior tennis tournament on Tuesday as did three other players from his country.

Three Pakistanis led by Shahzad Khan also made it to the last eight with Sri Lanka’s Nishendiran Sivendiran completing the line-up.

Rupesh eliminated Peerakit Siributwong of Thailand 7-6, 6-2 in a well-contested match at the Islamabad Club while Vivek Shokeen edged past his compatriot Lalit Mann 2-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Other two Indians who went through were Sundeep Kumar who defeated Ali Abdullah of Pakistan 6-3, 6-4 and Sumit Gupta, a 6- 2, 6-0 winner against Shahrukh Niazi.

The talented Shahzad continued to do well, knocking out India’s Kaushik Das in what was an easy 6-3, 6-1 victory for him. Wasif Cheema, also did not have to exert much against Naumanul Haq scoring a straightforward 6-1, 6-2 win.

Mutib Pasha, the third Pakistani who will be featuring in the quarterfinals defeated Nauman Yahya 7-6, 6-2.

Nishendiran Sivendiran, the only Sri Lankan in the last eight, went through in style walloping M. Usman Ejaz 6-2, 6-1.

In the girls competition, Punjaporn Ditthim moved into the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-1 romp against India’s Daksha Mulay while Puja Paul, another Indian girl swept aside Pakistan’s Saba Aziz 6-0, 6-4.

Two other players who won their quarterfinals were Nungnudda Wanasuk of Thailand, a 6-2, 6-0 conqueror of Sri Lankan Amita Arudpragasam and India’s Shweta Kakhandki, who squeezed past Poojashree Venkatesh, another Indian 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.
