PROFESSOR (Dr) Nishat Mallick was assassinated on April 26, 2002. Of his many achievements, his contribution to sports medicine in Pakistan was substantial. He founded the Sports Medicine Association of Pakistan (SMAP) in 1990.

In the same year he became the founding secretary-general of Asian Federation of Sports Medicine and later on he was elected its president, the first-ever Pakistani then.

He established the ‘Sports and Rehab Clinic’ at Karachi. which is still providing help to the needy.

Although he was elected to the National Assembly, politics was not his cup of tea.

On March 23, 2003, retired general Pervez Musharraf conferred on him the posthumous civilian award of Sitara-i-Imtiaz for his services in the field of sports medicine.
