KARACHI: Holders K-Electric survived a big scare before sealing a narrow two-wicket win over Medicam Group on the opening day of the final-round fixtures in the 20th Hinopak Trophy KCCA Inter-departmental Cricket League here on Monday.

After Medicam Group had posted 252 all out in the Group ‘A’ match at the KCCA Stadium, K-Electric had to fight hard in reaching their target with a boundary in the 48th over.

Arif Khan hit 82, inclusive of four sixes and as many boundaries as Medicam Group were dismissed on the last ball of their 50-over innings. Off-spinner Mansoor Khan bowled to claim four wickets for 44 runs.

K-Electric’s man run-getters in their chase were Rizwan Khan (58 with four fours and three sixes), Majid Khan (45, six boundaries) and Faraz Ahmed Khan (an unbeaten 44, five fours).

Off-spinner Kamran Khan captured 4-33 and Ishtiaq Ghauri struck an undefeated 77 (11 boundaries) to help Dubai Hawks beat Rangoonwala Group by five wickets in the other Group ‘A’ game at the TMC Ground.

In a Group ‘B’ tie at the Landhi Gymkhana Ground, Dollar East defeated Saudi Pak by three wickets with slow left-armer Jibran Yousuf (4-32), Aaqib Rizvi (50, four fours and one six) and Ijaz Ali (42, four fours and three sixes) starring for the winning side.
